My Mobile Menu Update Broke Checkout for 3 Days

Changed the hamburger menu icon. The mobile checkout button depended on it.

Let me start by saying: this was entirely avoidable.

I now check weekly. Eventually I found a workaround and everything worked again.

What Happened

The most avoidable part? I found out from a customer. I spent 2 days trying to debug what was happening. The most unbelievable part? Shopify did not alert me. I spent 4 days trying to fix what was happening.

Here is the thing: most merchants do not know this happens. I review monthly.

I spent a month trying to isolate what was happening. Shopify timed out and it blocked checkout.

⚠️ Warning: Eventually I cleared the cache and everything worked again.

The Fix

I now check monthly. What still gets me is there was no warning. What bothers me is the platform should catch this.

I now check religiously. Turns out the payment gateway was misconfigured. Turns out the payment gateway was misconfigured.

Running a Shopify store means being your own QA, your own billing auditor, your own tech support. Nobody else checks. You have to.
