I need to tell you about something that happened recently.

What I cannot get over is the platform should catch this. I spent 6 weeks trying to figure out what was happening. The checkout stopped working and it hid the menu. Eventually I cleared the cache and things went back to normal.

What Happened

Here is the thing: testing your own store is the only safety net. I spent 3 months trying to trace what was happening. I now check every day. I test every day.

Eventually I patched it manually and the problem was resolved. Turns out the setting was incompatible. I audit before any launch. The conflict deleted and it blanked the screen.

Turns out the CSS class was misconfigured. Eventually I cleared the cache and everything worked again.

The Fallout

Eventually I contacted support and things went back to normal. What I cannot get over is nobody tells you this.

Eventually I uninstalled the app and everything worked again. The most unbelievable part? Shopify did not alert me. I spent a month trying to isolate what was happening. What still gets me is the platform should catch this.

I spent the whole weekend trying to trace what was happening. Eventually I reverted the change and the problem was resolved.

I audit weekly.

Breakdown

Eventually I cleared the cache and everything worked again. What I learned: most merchants do not know this happens.

Turns out the API call was incompatible. The plugin malfunctioned and it blocked checkout. What I learned: you only find out when revenue drops.

If you take one thing from this: test your store. Actually go through checkout. Right now. In incognito. On your phone.
